Additional photos (from Sunday 8/29) posted in our Image Gallery. Inside the painting teams were working away as the day grew hotter to get the primer coat done and start the first coat of the chosen color for the interior walls. Plywood pieces were laid out on the roughed-out floor to provide a nice, even surface for the vinyl flooring to go in later. Bathroom fixtures were in. Outside, we used hard work and good measuring ability in getting the siding trimmed to finish the last part under the main roofline. My math background didn`t help a bit. Joe from Habitat, the man in charge, kept all the teams inside and outside on task. He made the template from which the siding could be cut at just the right angle, which sped things up.
A big "Thank You" to Elizabeth from UUC who provided the lunch -- what can only be called a BEAUTIFUL meal of individually bagged sandwiches (ham or turkey w/cheese and egg salad), home grown tomatoes and peppers, chips, apples, and, to negate the effects of all that healthy food, wonderful chocolate brownies! To all volunteers -- Keep up the great work and keep hydrated! And a continuing "thank you" to Tracy for her hard work in getting good shots of the house turning into a home. Additional photographers welcome!
New Vision UCC`s Financial Commitment: A display board is now located in the fellowship area showing where we are on our fundraising for this build. Thanks to everyone who has graciously contributed to this outreach ministry... Every amount given, no matter what amount, is helping us reach our commitment of $2,500.

New Vision is holding a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser to help meet our financial commitment to the Build. Come join us for great food and fellowship - and invite friends and family to come along. Starting at 800 AM and going until 1130 AM.

Market Heights Garage Sale - Sat-Sun, Oct 9-10
Still have those "treasures" set aside? New Vision UCC will be partipating in this year`s Market Heights neighborhood fall sale. Everyone is asked to consider bringing in one or two nice items to donate toward the sale. All proceeds will go to helping meet the church`s present financial needs. In addition to donations we are also seeking volunteers to help work the sale, and in the process meet many of our neighbors! There is a sign up sheet for two hour blocks of time located in the upper fellowship room. We will begin accepting donations the week of September 19.
Disaster Relief and Response
The United Church of Christ continues its emergency appeal for Haiti, Chile, and for areas of our own country (READ: "What About That Oil Spill?" from Rev. Shari Prestemon of Back Bay Mission) that have been hard hit by natural (and unnatural) disasters.
How You Can Help:
- Pray for the people of Haiti and Chile, their their leaders and for the brave emergency and humanitarian aid workers risking their lives and making sacrifces every day.
- Visit Disaster Alerts on UCC`s website to get the latest reports and to send secure online donations.
- Hygiene and Baby Kits are still urgently needed for survivors in Haiti. This is one very concrete and "hands-on" thing that church groups can do. Church World Service has issued an urgent call for Gifts of the Heart Kits.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
Equal Exchange
Did you know that at New Vision UCC we serve Equal Exchange coffee during our fellowship hour and other church functions? The UCC Coffee Project is a way for our congregation to join hands with communities in the developing world. As Christians we can address a consumer dilemma by buying coffee that is fairly traded. Through the project, farmers and their families gain more control over their lives, earn a fairer share of income, have access to credit and technical support, and gain a trading partner they can trust, a fair trade organization called Equal Exchange. Besides coffee, tea, hot chocolate mix, and chocolate bars are available.
Jan Griffith coordinates this program for New Vision UCC. You can place personal orders for coffee, tea and chocolates through her, and she will make up CUSTOM ORDERS, too -- perfect gifts for babysitters, caregivers and colleagues. You can also support our efforts through the donation can which helps us purchase fairly traded items for our fellowship times together. You can learn more at www.equalexchange.coop/ucc.
